Daniel wins in Mulvane/Kansas!
Another display of technique, heart and determination lead Daniel to a famous win at Bellator 159 in Mulvane/Kansas.
7 months had passed since Daniel´s last appearance in the Bellator cage and it was yet another huge fight, which would determine the number 1 contender status in Bellator´s highly talented featherweight division. Daniel would face fellow 5-1 (under the Bellator banner) fighter Emmanuel Sanchez. Both only had one opponent in common, with Daniel beating former champion Curran on points in January 15 and Sanchez losing a decision later in the year. The stakes were as high as it gets and that´s how the fight turned out to be in the end as well.
And although Sanchez´s output was higher than Daniel´s- he would fail to outland Daniel, too. Daniel was able to hit 3 takedowns in the first round, without being able to control Sanchez for too long, but he did land an early takedown into round 3 and controlling proceedings for slightly more than 2 minutes. He wasn´t able to capture a submission although he had Sanchez´s back for a couple of moments.
Daniel attacked with a flying knee at the end of the fight while hitting another takedown with the final bell ending the fight.
Daniel was declared the winner via (a little bit surprising) split decision. One thing is for sure- the fans were in for a thrill and Daniel has put himself in pole position for another shot at the title. Thanks for all the fans, friends, sponsors and training partners who keep supporting Germany´s p4p mma fighter number 1!
